Hello Folks, this was definitely a ‘blink and you missed it’ week! It’s been lovely and bright here in the North East UK but oh my days how cold though!!
It’s also been a year since I jumped into using Mailchimp for the weekly newsletter and nearly a year for my other two weekly mailings (the weekly ‘How-To’ and The Week In Data Privacy), if you don’t get those already and you want them just drop me a message and I’ll send you the link.
I do a lot of reading and research as part of my job as I’ve mentioned before so I thought I would share with you some of the things that I have come across in the last year and some of the predictions for the road ahead to mark my 1yr AskMrsWatsonNews anniversary.
1. Everything is getting faster. Super fast fibre broadband right to our front door (FTTP – Fibre to the premises) and satellites leaving for orbit in numbers that are going to cause more problems than they solve if we don’t watch it but let’s be positive and hope that the end result is a closing of the digital divide with online access for whoever can benefit from it.
2. Progress apparently towards the development of an unhackable Internet, now wouldn’t that be nice! From the different sources I’ve seen though it’s not 100% and a way off yet but all part of the fun area of Science called ‘Quantum Mechanics’, a topic that used to fascinate my Mum, fun fact for you…
3. Everything ‘As a Service’. Oh how we laughed at Microsoft when it brought out a subscription service; who would want to pay monthly for things when you can make a one off payment we scoffed…Well look where we are now…Amazon Prime, Netflix, GSuite, Microsoft 365 (who buys it out of the box anymore eh!) and not too far into the future thanks to the old Internet of Things, “the move to everything as-a-service will continue to accelerate. Just think of ideas like automatic replenishment directly from your IoT enabled washing machine, dishwasher or coffee maker. If you combine that with AI-based anticipatory demand prediction, then you understand why Amazon will continue to be one of the winners of this century.” Source: https://www.timfrankandersen.com/ten-tech-predictions-2021/everything-as-a-service
I was today years old when I discovered these folks so I thought I should give them this week’s mention. Whilst face to face is slowly coming back into our lives, the virtual experience I’m sure is very much here to stay, giving us the best of both worlds. There is a free version of this so I’ve created an account to have a play, I’ll keep you posted! Link below if you want to check them out.
